Our clients purchased this Victorian terraced house in Broadstairs after a long search to find the perfect property! Considering the overall size of this family home, the property had a very small kitchen/utility/garden room – and our clients being passionate cooks – it just wouldn’t do! We designed and built a kitchen/dining room extension, to create an open plan socialising area, with a wonderful outlook on to the garden plus an added utility and bathroom at the back.

We worked closely with the clients right from the very start of this project. They had a clear image in their minds (along with a couple of Pinterest boards!)of what they hoped to achieve from the build, and we are very pleased with the finished results, as it has encapsulated all the elements they had envisaged.

The single story extension consisted of a heritage brick skin, pitched slate roof, with electric Velux windows, bespoke timber French doors out to the garden, exposed beams, limestone and engineered oak flooring, a modern shaker Howdens kitchen with a Sardinian Grey granite worktop, vintage fixtures and fittings, including reclaimed lighting.

The utility room is a great room at the back of the kitchen (through a boot-room style hall). It houses the washing machine and tumble dryer, a vintage French porcelain basin, the new boiler cupboard, a compact WC and tiled shower cubicle.

We redecorated the study and lounge area to the rear of the utility – removed and rehomed the boiler and created some bespoke storage. We also refurbished the fireplace, and removed the existing fire basket, and mantle and created a modern, luxurious housing for the new log burner.

The colours used within the scheme are very sympathetic to the period of the property, and are complimented by the floral accents in the quintessentially English country garden. Farrow & Ball’s Oval Room Blue was used within the study/lounge and makes for a very cosy room. Skimming Stone on the walls throughout the rest of the extension is a very soft and subtle tone, and again, creates a very warm and encompassing feel to the property. Inchyra Blue was used on the joinery and again, offers a lovely contrast and accent to the rooms. That and the wonderful aged brass fittings compliment each other very well, creating a very luxurious detail.  Elephants Breath, Downpipe and Wimborne White have also been used and create a very inspiring palette. 

The French doors to the garden were designed and manufactured in our joinery workshop – they were produced in high quality softwood with hardwood cills and double-glazing.
